REHABILITATION

The goal of rehabilitation is to improve the quality of life of the pet. This involves decreasing pain, increasing mobility and helping with recovery from surgery or injury.

Rehabilitation is often recommended for patients with osteoarthritis, intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), post-operative recovery, soft tissue injuries, and hip dysplasia just to name a few. These conditions may result in pain, loss of coordination and strength, and difficulty performing normal daily activities.

There are multiple rehabilitation methods and treatments that can be used to help patients. Each case begins with a thorough physical exam and treatments are recommended based on the needs of the pet and discussions with the owner.

Problems that rehabilitation can help with include:

  • Osteoarthritis pain and discomfort
  • Degenerative myelopathy
  • Obesity
  • Fibrocartilagenous embolism (FCE)
  • Traumatic nerve injury
  • Post-operative orthopedic and neurological cases
  • Muscle atrophy
  • Patellar luxation
  • Lack of mobility
  • Soft tissue injury and pain
