Dear Dr. James,
I just wanted to take a moment to thank you and the staff at
the Michigan Veterinary Specialists for the unbelievable professionalism,
support and genuine care you give to your patients and their families.
I know in my heart that you did everything you could to try to
save Vinnie, unfortunately it’s not always in our power
to have things turn out the way we’d like them to. I also
wanted to thank you personally for taking time out of your personal
schedule to talk with me on the phone and show your support in
person during the most difficult time. I know Vinnie is in a place
where he can do the things he loved the most and will be my guardian
angel. I wish you could have met Vinnie when he was well to really
see the ‘personality’ he had. He was a great guy and
he held a very special place in the hearts of anyone that met
him and knew him. Enclosed is a picture taken this past summer
of Vinnie doing one of his FAVORITE things, going up north to
the beach and playing in the sand and water. I’m doing my
best to remember him this way and wanted to share this great memory
with you. Thanks again for your support and kindness.

Dear Dr. Calhoun,
My husband and I wanted you to know how pleased we have been
with our association with the competent and caring professionals
at Michigan Veterinary Specialists. Most recently our Rhodesian
Ridgeback, Annie, was brought into the emergency room ICU from
Ann Arbor by our pet sitter, as we were with family in Virginia.
Dr. Smith reviewed results sent by VCA Woodland and communicated
the serious nature of Annie’s condition that night to us
by telephone. She walked me through the options that she felt
might be appropriate to further diagnose what was occurring and
also made us aware of the option to keep her alive and comfortable
until we could return to Michigan the following day. She allowed
us time to ask questions and review options. Because Annie was
going on 14 years of age and was seriously ill, we decided against
prolonging her suffering.
While en route to our home on Thursday, January 12th, Dr. March
called to update us of her condition. She too thoroughly discussed
the nature of Annie’s condition and told us as Dr. Smith
had, to call when we wanted updates. When we got to the metro
area in Michigan I called Dr. March to let her know of our whereabouts
as I knew she was soon off duty. She volunteered that she was
staying until our arrival. She was very compassionate and considerate
of our emotions and feelings and provided us an opportunity to
have a last visit with Annie. We had as much time as we wanted
to say our goodbyes. She allowed me to hold Annie during the euthanasia.
Over the last couple of years, Dr. Kuehn treated Annie for intestinal
problems. He always returned our calls and continued to give us
suggestions for Annie’s health. We’ve appreciated
the professionalism of your staff at all levels.

Dear Dr. Kuehn,
I would like to thank you and your staff for helping to give
Scupper 4 ½ more years of quality life. Without your help,
it would never have happened. We all appreciate your phone calls,
efforts and support in making the right decisions for Scup. Thanks!!
— Mike B.
Dear Chris,
On Tuesday, January 31, 2006, I brought my black lab mix ‘Muffin’
in to see Dr. Kuehn.
This was our first trip to Michigan Veterinary Specialists and
within minutes of registration, you made your way over to us and
were so friendly and pleasant. After Muffin’s ultrasound,
I received news that the liver showed areas of concern and the
possibility of cancer was mentioned. An overwhelming sadness consumed
me as Muffin is so special – like a child to me. While checking
out, I was teary-eyed and will never forget your kind words of
compassion and understanding as well as your sympathetic hug.
MVS is so fortunate to have you on staff as you truly have a gift
with the animals and for mankind as well. You reached out to me
at a time when I needed someone and I thank you for being such
a wonderful person!
— Jennifer G. & Muffin
Dear Dr. Kuehn and Staff,
Richard and I want to thank you for all the years of dedication
and care you provided for Buddy. Your special attention to his
years of medical problems allowed us to enjoy his life for 14
years. No one could understand our loss better than you. Each
day is difficult to get through, but we know the memories will
help ease our pain.
Our children gave us a book last night called ‘For Every
Dog an Angel’, by Christine Davis. This book tells us how
the angel was there when Buddy was born, and how the angel is
there now. We are all Buddy’s angels. Thank you from the
bottom of our hearts. We only have the utmost respect for you
and your colleagues and how you care for our pets each and every
day. We wish you much success in your new facility, it is beautiful!

Dear Dr. Calhoun,
My name is Tanya T. and I wanted to write to tell you about
my experience at your facility. I think that people are too often
willing to criticize but not to give credit where it is due.
Approximately two weeks ago, I brought my dog, Murphy, in to
your emergency facility. He was in Chronic Renal Failure (I now
know) and he wasn’t doing well. After working to stabilize
him, Dr. Julie March came in and sat down with me. It was the
worst possible news that a devoted dog owner can receive. He was
dying, in a lot of pain and needed to be let go. I was a complete
wreck. She was kind, honest, compassionate and strong and handled
the situation so well. I cannot begin to articulate to you how
very much her compassion and honesty meant to me that day. She
explained the numbers and what was happening to my dog –
no one else had. The truth was incredibly hard to hear, but I
needed it in order to know what to do for Murphy. Letting him
go was probably the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, but
she stayed with us and talked to me and never ceased being kind,
understanding and compassionate. In a moment like that, those
qualities and that company is everything.
You have an amazing facility, but what makes it special are the
people, their efforts and their compassion. I will be forever
impressed with Michigan Veterinary Specialists simply from the
actions of Dr. Julie March. She was present with me during some
of the worst moments of my life, and she acted like a trusted
friend and doctor the entire time, even though I had just met
her. So often, people become desensitized and detached and I was
scared that’s what I would encounter at an emergency facility.
Thankfully, I couldn’t have been further from the truth.
Everyone was very professional, but still kind and caring. I wish
I had been able to remember their names – the vet tech who
helped us (and calmly guided me on the phone when I was hysterical
and trying to find your facility) and the kind woman who did our
closing paperwork.
I miss Murphy terribly, but his loss was tempered by the kindness,
helpfulness and compassion of the people we dealt with that day.
I am thankful he had people like that around him at that time.
He deserved nothing less.
Thank you for having people like Dr. March on staff who are kind,
compassionate and respect the bond we have with our animals. In
an emergency situation you simply can’t put a price on that.
It is truly immeasurable.
— Tanya T.
I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the wonderful customer
service I received on Sunday, June 25. Unfortunately, I had to
put my son’s (to be honest I loved him too) pet ferret to
sleep. In the midst of my sobbing, the staff was wonderful and
patient. Also, the clay paw print is a great touch.
— Rhonda B.
Dr. Tremble,
We cannot thank you and the staff at Michigan Veterinary Specialists
enough for taking care of our little kitty Lizzie with the seizure
on Friday, Sept. 15. Obviously it hit us hard, but the calm and
caring staff helped us handle it better. From our first contact
on the phone to get directions to the triage nurse, to you. We
are sorry that we didn’t catch their names, but if you could
relay this message to them we would greatly appreciate it. Everyone
was professional, concerned, and sensitive to our needs. Lizzie
is doing great! Thanks again and we have already recommended MVS
to friends with pets.
— Beverly & Ky B.
Dear Dr. James,
Thank you for looking after Roamaro on 28 Dec, 2005. He’s
still alive! Currently, though, he has started to fade more rapidly
and probably won’t be with us much longer. We were very
impressed with the way you summed up his situation when we came
to MVS Emergency on the night of the 28th.
Bill and I are very grateful to you, Dr. Alsup and the others
for the well-worded and thoughtful sympathy card you sent when
Nile passed away in January. That you each took time to write
really touched us – it was so meaningful. Thank you!
— Audrey M.
Dear Dr. Calhoun,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your
staff for the fine service and kindness Michigan Veterinary Specialists
has demonstrated towards a family friend and her beloved dog,
last Friday.
Christine greeted and guided Pat and her dog Patty into the exam
room, then she proceeded to quickly learn the concerns of both
the patient and the owner. Christine was thorough, professional
and demonstrated a caring attitude throughout the whole process.
There was a good transition from Christine to Dr. Haase.
I found Dr. Haase to be both professional and compassionate in
her evaluation process and prognosis. Dr. Haase has a gift of
compassion within her that shines in her professionalism. This
is the hallmark of a great doctor.
April was very kind in the handling of the administrative process.
Overall this was a life changing experience for both Pat and
Patty and was handled in a kind and professional manner.
Dr. Calhoun, please thank everyone at Michigan Veterinary Specialists
for all their fine work and efforts in assisting Pat and Patty
in this most trying time. It takes a total team effort to run
a top veterinary practice, such as Michigan Veterinary Specialists.
Thank you!
— Robert A.
Dear Dr. Lorimer,
From the bottom of our hearts we THANK YOU for saving Joshua’s
eyesight. We still can’t believe its true!
Thank you also for your patience and tremendous kindness as we
worked through a very difficult situation. The circumstances by
which you were able to help us were remarkable and divinely engineered.
Your staff is truly excellent. Everyone we’ve had the privilege
of working with has been supportive and very understanding. Every
one of them has helped us tremendously and we want to thank them
each personally.
Special thanks to Dr. James. We’ll always remember her
gentleness and great sense of humor during the night of Josh’s
surgery and the next day. She really hung in there with us. What
a gem!
May God continue to bless your practice and Michigan Veterinary
Specialists for many, many years!
— Joel W. & Suzanne T.
